(Collaborators Wanted)

KAGUZUCHI is looking for collaborators to build projects with us. We actively incorporate skills that shine when combined with fire and light, along with your own ideas for what you would love to try on stage, into KAGUZUCHI’s performances.

We Are Looking For

Who We’re Looking For

Performers

Fire performers and dancers, of course, as well as anyone with the skills to perform light-based acts who has ideas for what they want to try on stage. We welcome performances that shine when combined with fire, LEDs, black light, and more.

For Performers (Skill Guidelines)

Musicians

Musicians who can produce music for our shows and video works. We currently use commercially available tracks, but if possible, we would love to perform to cool, original music.

Technical Specialists

More dreamlike, more powerful, more magical. People with specialized technical or production skills that bring our performances and spaces to life: LEDs and other electronics, metal welding, video, web development, photography, design, and more.

For Performers

For Performers

KAGUZUCHI has no fixed members. We work on a project basis, inviting the performers each show needs based on the stage environment, the nature of the request, and the budget. Anyone is welcome to join, and anyone is free to leave. We do not hold scheduled practice sessions, so build your skills on your own and show us what you can do.

What Matters Most

Letting us know what you can do. Please send us a video of your performance (a smartphone video is fine). If we don’t know what you can do, we can’t reach out to you.

Who We’re Most Likely to Call On

  • Can create a showcase segment of about 1–2 minutes using two or more types of props
  • Has an original routine of about 2–5 minutes that works as a solo (if you have one for fire and one for light, we can fit you into a show at any venue)
  • Has a prop no one else can copy, or one truly outstanding skill
  • Has learned our group routines, such as the opening and ending
  • Can also take on backstage roles such as setup, equipment operation, assisting performers, fire extinguishing, safety management, and teardown

For solos, we tend to choose 3–5 minute acts using one or two types of props over routines that show many props in a short time.

Four Performer Levels

LevelGuideline
ApprenticeCan perform the simpler parts of routines such as the opening and ending. Can create a showcase segment of about 1–2 minutes using two or more types of props.
PerformerCan perform routines such as the opening and ending, including the difficult parts.
OriginatorHas an original routine of about 2–5 minutes that works as a solo, and at least one routine that can be inserted between parts of a show.
SpecialistCan use a rare prop that can serve as the core of a routine, or has one type of prop with which their skill is recognized as truly outstanding.

What to Include When Proposing a Routine

KAGUZUCHI builds its shows by combining individual routines (“units”). If you are bringing us your own act or a proposal, the following details will help us review it.

  • Name of the act (a working title or song title is fine)
  • Type of performance (fire, LED, visual poi, flag, hoop, dance, acrobatics, etc.; combinations are welcome)
  • Length (around 3–6 minutes is standard; for longer 8–10 minute routines, it helps to have highlights or changes of pace along the way)
  • Number of performers (the minimum and maximum, e.g., “works with just 1 person” or “with 4 people, we can do line formations”)
  • Support and conditions required (help with ignition, indoor or outdoor, whether a blackout is needed, space, ceiling height, power supply, etc.)
  • Key features and recommended placement (e.g., suited to the opening or the climax)
  • Reference videos (past performances, rehearsals, etc.)

For routine videos, please send unedited footage of the whole routine from start to finish, performed to the music (a smartphone video is fine), together with the audio file (with the song title, length, and file format indicated). Including the program that syncs with your LED props (Lighttoys Composer) also improves your chances of being selected.
